Hi, I'm Sarah

My deep fascination for understanding how everything works led me to pursue engineering and design. My passion for people led me to human-centered design.

When I see a problem, I need to fix it. Whether it's hardware, software, educational, or systemic, problem solving starts with identifying the right problem and root causes through research.

My academic research has focused on understanding how people are excluded by design because of individual factors. From computing devices that are too big for the average woman, to videoconferencing platforms that don't work for D/deaf and hard of hearing people, to medical environments that neglect secondary and tertiary users, I have used mixed-methods research and design methods to create more inclusive design.

My inspirations and interests

I'm constantly building my observation and design skills through exploring the built and natural environments. I notice the creative ways people re-design their worlds to make them work for them, and also, the ways in which people are excluded, by design, due to disability, anthropometry, or other individual factors.

I love volunteer work and advocacy. I've been involved with disability design and advocacy my entire life. Recently, I've gotten involved with animal rescue and fostered 5 puppies in 2024.

Looking ahead

I'm working on a project analyzing the politics of artifacts I've found driving around the country visiting National Parks.
